Who We Are

Temple Beth Abraham is a Conservative-movement congregation with a simultaneous traditional and contemporary feel. On one hand, we will remind you of your childhood synagogue, and feel privileged to carry on the traditions and rituals passed along to us by our ancestors. On the other hand, we are proud to reflect the values and energy of the Bay Area in the 21st century. We’re warm, vibrant, fun, diverse, child, parent and caregiver-friendly, and welcoming to interfaith families and members of all ages.

We are:

Communal – TBA is a place where the clergy and our members take care of each other in celebration and in sadness. Our members, young and old, help lead services and read Torah on Shabbat and holidays.

Intergenerational – At a typical service you will usually find people born in every decade, from 0-90. Childcare is available so parents have time to pray and socialize, and kids have space to play.

Warm and Heimish – Friendships form easily here, and our congregants love to engage in long conversations… sometimes even during the prayer service.

Inclusive – We welcome members and guests from the LGBTQ+ community, and of all racial and cultural backgrounds.

Eaters – We have delicious, caterer-prepared kiddush lunches every single week which are open to the whole community; great food and great shmoozing.

Reliable – We have a balanced budget, a stable membership, and an endowment financed by the generosity of our members.

Musical – Our services feature lots of congregational singing. On Saturday mornings we use traditional davening, and on Friday nights we hold camp-style, guitar-led services.

Teachers –  We have a nurturing preschool, Gan Avraham, which builds Jewish identity through play, and has some of the most experienced staff around. We also have a dynamic religious school where children really learn Jewish skills and values and form lifelong friendships, as well as special age-specific Shabbat services for preschool, younger elementary-age, and older elementary-age kids.
